Helena Gates Obituary
Helena Wanda Gates, "Helen", 94 of Auburn, passed away April 16, 2016 at Auburn Community Hospital with her daughter by her side.
Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Mary (Zietara) Golemo.
She moved to the Geneva and Auburn areas where she completed high school and business school.
She enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, especially cardinals, was an avid reader and loved traveling especially to the Desert Southwest. In her early years she enjoyed golfing and bowling.
She adored her cats and always had a furry friend on her lap, the latest being Scooter.
She was extremely proud that she physically helped her father build her house ascwell as the house he built later in life.
She is survived by her daughter Holly Gates-Mayer and her husband Carl; a granddaughter Sarah J. Mayer; a cousin Frank Widor and by many close friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Milan Leroy Gates in June of 1990; her infant son Scott Gates and by a brother John Golemo.
There are no calling hours or funeral services.
Burial will be in Fort Hill Cemetery.
