Dagmar Tanner Obituary

The world lost a beloved woman, Dagmar Tanner of Auburn, NY, on November 17, 2023, after a brief illness. Dagmar was born on February 19, 1951, and was raised in Pearl River, NY. She is survived by her loyal dog, Gunner, her loving grandchildren, Tommy, Alyssa, Dana, Addison, Cameron and Tanner, her children, Jessica (Tony) DiBartolo, Cheryl (Tom) Armstrong, and Susan (David) Dorzbacher, her loving husband of 53 years, Peter, her sister Maggie Schou (Gail McKinley) and her brother Thomas (Sue) Schou and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard McIlwee, and both her parents, Svend and Margaret Schou.

Dagmar's life was one lived giving to others and doing service of some kind. She was a committed 'mom' to many Rainbow Girls over the years. Her friends knew her as a kind soul, a loving dog mom, the giver of the best hugs, a personality that was spunky and vibrant, an empathetic listener, and always ready for an adventure. Dagmar loved working on blankets and quilts to give away, she called them hug blankets because they were made with love.

The immediate family will have a private opportunity to say goodbye per Dagmar's wishes. All those who loved her will be invited to a celebration of her life which will be held at a later time. To honor her memory, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National MS Society (www.nationalmssociety.org) or to American Vet Dogs (www.vetdogs.org) to continue her example of giving selflessly.
