Clyde Monroe Obituary

Clyde C. Monroe, J., "Sonny", 88, of The Boyle Center, passed away May 6, 2018 at his daughter's home following a brief illness. Born in Auburn, he was a 1947 East High School graduate and 1957 graduate of Colgate University. Clyde was a Marine veteran serving his Country from 1952 to 1953.

Clyde owned and operated Monroe and Davis Coal company in Auburn prior to his 30 year employment with Agway Gas , retiring in 1996.

He was an energetic YMCA member or over 50 years, where he and played racquetball and basketball. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was also the custodian for many years. Clyde enjoyed watching baseball and football and was a fan of both SU and Colgate.

He is survived by his daughter Beth Monroe of Auburn, two sons, Doug (Judy) Monroe of PA and Scott (Cheryl) Monroe of RI; a sister Nan Demuth of Geneva; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Betty Monroe in 2007 and by a sister Barbara Davis.

Calling hours will be at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 16 from 9am -10:45am with service to follow at 11am. Private burial will take place in Fort Hill Cemetery.
