Christopher Michael Murphy, a resident of Bonita Springs, Florida, died unexpectedly Saturday October 25, 2014. Formerly from Corning NY, Christopher was born March 11, 1949 in Jamaica, Long Island, NY, to Dr. Edward G. and Claire (ne Tishler) Murphy.
Christopher led a colorful and exciting life serving the public in law enforcement in Albany and Washington D.C., and in the restaurant business in Corning before retiring to Florida with his beloved wife of 32 years Teresa (ne Costello) Murphy.
Christopher served his country with honor in the U.S. Army from 1971-1973. He then served in the United States Secret Service and was assigned to the White House guarding President Richard M. Nixon and Vice President Gerald R. Ford. He worked for Vice President Nelson A Rockefeller in private security service before his employment with the New York State Police.
Christopher served with the New York State Police from 1978 until his retirement in 1999. He was assigned to the Executive Chamber detail where he provided protective services for Governor Mario Cuomo and Lieutenant Governor Stan Lundine.
Mr. Murphy also served subsequently for several years as a member of the Special Investigative Unit of NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation where he was awarded numerous commendations and citations for bravery and courage.
In addition to his loving wife, Mr Murphy is survived by his beloved children Rosemary "Rori" (Eric) Dellinger of Chesapeake Virginia, Matthew (Ali Gates) Murphy of Corning, NY, Megan (Joseph) DiTizio of Whitefish MT, their mother, Maureen Sapia (ne Fox) and Bryan ( Caroline) Murphy of Vestal, NY; his bothers and sister Richard Murphy of Homer, AK,
Patrick Murphy of Cazenovia, NY, Steve (Marie "Babbette") Murphy of Old Bridge, NJ and Jane Murphy of Cazenovia, NY; and six cherished grandchildren, Riley, Caden, Bowen, Rafferty, Eva and Conley.
Calling hours will be held at the Langham Funeral Home LLC, 75 E. Genesee St., Auburn, NY, Thursday October 30, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Auburn NY on Friday October 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
