Catherine Sleger, “Cathy”, 83, of Orchard Street, Auburn, NY, passed away May 7, 2026 at The Commons on St. Anthony, Auburn. Cathy was born in Rochester, New York and in 1961, at a young age of 18, became a part of the Emmi and Stebbins Families in every sense of the word. After a difficult start in life, Cathy was welcomed with open hearts and was given a place of her own to live, along with support and encouragement to build a life for herself.
She joined them for every holiday, every celebration, and so many everyday moments in between. Cathy’s favorite day was her birthday. Every year, she was showered with extra love, cake, balloons and presents as close family and friends would gather in Emmi Realty’s break room to celebrate. Over the years, she worked hard at the cleaning jobs Sam and Lorraine Emmi helped her find, taking pride in her work and her independence. Cathy’s warm friendly smile and innocence holds a special place in the hearts who knew her. Her presence accompanied with a cheerful, “Hi Honey!” will be missed by many. She loved animals, especially her kitty, Bootsie.
Each person in her life was important and played a significant role in her happiness. Slow boat rides on Owasco Lake with an occasional slow dance to music with Captain Charlie brought her joy. Her love and admiration for Lorraine and Sam was remarkable, as they were the light of her life. She adored her landlord Danny and lit up and called him, “Her Danny Boy” each time she saw him. She was especially close with Mary Ellen Casper, who would bring her to and from every occasion. Cheri, who she knew was always there for her and was her biggest fan. Tyler and Chaz, who from a very young age always took time to visit and spend quality time with her. She looked forward to their facetime visits when they couldn't visit in person. And her friend and hairdresser, Annie Hess, who made Cathy feel extra beautiful on a daily basis.
She was a family member to the Emmi and Stebbins families for 65 years, and they are so grateful for the love, memories, and connection they shared with her. There are no calling hours or services at this time. Should you wish, please consider a donation to the Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY in memory of Cathy and her love for animals. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Duckett and to the wonderful first floor nurses at the Commons Rehabilitation for the outstanding care and heartfelt "send off" they gave Cathy.
