Betty (Bodine) LaFever

Betty (Bodine) LaFever, 93, of Owasco passed away with her family by her side on March 13th at the Finger Lakes Center for Living. Born in Auburn, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Lodema (Hoover) Scott. Betty retired from Cayuga Community College, where she served for several years as the secretary in the Student Services Department. Betty cherished her time there, and made several special friends. Her welcoming smile made students and faculty feel at ease. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed sewing and several kinds of crafts, especially making gifts for her grandchildren. She played the piano and enjoyed sharing delicious homemade desserts with her colleagues and friends. She was a nurturer and caretaker by nature, always drawn to people and concerned with their well-being. Betty enjoyed spending time at a camp on Eagle Lake in Canada that she shared with her husband Richard. While raising her own four children, Betty also acted as a foster parent to numerous children, offering them stability and loving care. 

Betty is survived by her children, Linda (Ed) Kehoe, David Gregg Bodine, Patricia (Robert) Bodine-Oxford, and James (Diane) Bodine; nine grandchildren Brian (Carrie), Matthew (Lacey Jacobsen), Timothy (Alyssa Chartrand), and Daniel (Rachel) Kehoe, Elena (lan) Schroth, J'nelle Oxford, Kelly (Seth) Plyter, Shannon (James) Brown, and Eric (Jennifer) Bodine; nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Her family wishes to extend gratitude for the loving care provided by the staff at Finger Lakes Center in her last years. 

In addition to her parents, Betty is predeceased by her husbands, Trooper David Bodine and Richard LaFever, a son-in-law, Dr. Anton Tewes, and grandson Mark David Tewes, two sisters, Peggy Edmunds and Ruth Thomas, and a brother, William Scott. 

Calling hours will be March 25th from 11am to noon with a funeral service to follow at Owasco Reformed Church.  Burial will be in Owasco Rural Cemetery.
